wake-up call by Grace Alice Evans

Updated: Aug 26, 2020

wake-up call

that slight

slick body

thrashing on

the chalky floor, gasping for water. a barely discernible

sound,

and yet i found myself electrified,

flailing with adrenaline,

my heart in my throat. a wake-up call –

the future trembling in my veins.

how long can you gasp

for what gives you life

in a hostile space?
