Madness by Lucia Larsen

Madness

I do not need to wear clothes

for I am dressed in rage and madness-

can you see my skin through my cloak of savagery?

it will protect me far better than the dresses of civility

you buttoned me in as a child

my nakedness is finally speaking a truth about myself

you would have me hide even from my own eyes

sinking into the mud of my intentions

I will drown in my wild impulses

until you lock me in white gowns

made for the ones

who never learned to paint their skin in acid

who never learned to take their place in your reels

who never learned to hey and bow their way

through choreographed dances

I have stripped myself down

until there is nothing left for you to take

discarded, I will find new ways to grow

that would make your prim trellis quake
