Heart by James McDermott

the heart weighs a pound you spend ninety nine

pence on my lidl valentines day card

unlike other cells heart cells don’t divide

my heart is the same size as two hands clasped

you won’t hold my hand in public in case

we get beaten my heart beats one hundred

and fifteen thousand times each day you said

I love you once monday is the day when

most heart attacks happen on christmas day

you leave me for a man in new jersey

the smallest mammal the american

pygmy shrew has the fastest beating heart

if you were to stretch out my blood vessels

they extend over sixty thousand miles
